Involving uninsured vehicle

If you are involved in an accident with an uninsured vehicle in Cyprus for which you are not responsible and you are claiming compensation from the Fund, you must:

If your claim relates to property damage only:
(a) notify the Police and inform them of the involvement of an uninsured vehicle,
(b) notify the Fund to inspect the damage of your car before commencing any repairs,
(c) submit a claim on the specified form, attaching the Registration Certificate and the Insurance Certificate of your car in force on the date of the accident

If your claim relates to bodily injuries only:
(a) notify the Police and inform for the involvement of an uninsured vehicle,
(b) submit a claim on the specified form
(c) attach all the relevant medical certificates and documents,
(d) submit all the relevant evidence and documents

If your claim relates to property damage and bodily injuries:
All the above

Involving unknown vehicle

If you are involved in an accident in Cyprus with an unknown vehicle for which you are not responsible you must:

(a)  call the Police to attend to the scene or notify the Police to record the accident within 48 hours,
(b)  notify the Fund to investigate the accident,
(c)  submit a claim on the specified form, attaching the Registration Certificate and the Insurance Certificate of your car in force on the date of the accident.

In case of accident with an unknown vehicle for which you are not responsible, you may be entitled to compensation from the Fund:

  • For bodily injury or death.
  • Under specific conditions, for material damage over €500.

Involving vehicle with foreign plates

If you are involved in an accident in Cyprus with a vehicle with foreign registration plates, you must:  

− Call the Police to attend and record the accident.
− Note down the registration number of the foreign vehicle and its country of origin.
− Ask from the foreign driver to present his/her Green Card or insurance policy.
− Contact the Cyprus International Insurance Bureau as soon as possible.

  • If the foreign insurance company has appointed a Correspondent in Cyprus, the Cyprus International Insurance Bureau will advise you to contact the Correspondent of the foreign insurance company.
  • If the foreign insurance company has not appointed a Correspondent in Cyprus, our Bureau (MIF) will handle your claim in accordance with the terms of the Internal Regulations.

Our Bureau has to inspect the damage of your vehicle before repairs have started. Also you have to complete a prescribed claim form, attaching the insurance documents and the certificate of registration of your vehicle. In case of bodily injuries, medical certificates must also be attached.
